The hands of the clock are moving too slowly for you Is this crippling life the best we can do? You’re a piece of equipment, you’re mobile stock Put your fingers into a fist and punch the clock Punch the clock! Tire of living our lives for someone else Yanked down, messed around, put back on the shelf We say “No!” to boredom, frustration, and shame Nothing‘s going to stop us now that we know our name What’s our name? Clockwatchers and we’re on the march We’re Clockwatchers, and it’s up to us Clockwatchers, and we’re on the march We’re Clockwatchers, and it’s up to us Tell me now, wage slave, What’s it gonna be? Do you want a quiet life, or do you want to make history? They think you’re happy; they think you’re an idiot Keep you so frustrated that you start believing it Don’t believe it! Clockwatchers and we’re on the march We’re Clockwatchers, and it’s up to us Clockwatchers, and we’re on the march We’re Clockwatchers, and it’s up to us Clockwatchers Nobody’s going to give us anything Clockwatchers Our chains to lose, a world to win Clockwatchers and we’re on the march We’re Clockwatchers, and it’s up to us Clockwatchers, and we’re on the march We’re Clockwatchers, and it’s up to us

Boy, is that your girl? Is that your girl out on the floor? What do you mean? What do you mean, you want some more? She’s gonna tire of you You better not let her You know if I were you I wouldn’t try to do better What do you mean, She’s going to make a scene? She’s not gonna be The one to cry, oh Don’t make her mad Don’t make her mad Boy that girl’s too good for you She makes you look so bad A one-time deal, a steal Just don’t make her mad So, I saw her out I saw her out around the town I didn’t know I didn’t know she got you down You want to play the field? I think you’re not gonna It takes a certain type I know you’re not one of What do you mean She’s going to make a scene? She’s not gonna be The one to cry, oh Don’t make her mad Don’t make her mad Boy that girl’s too good for you She makes you look so bad A one-time deal, a steal Just don’t make her mad I know the kind of boy She makes it easy for you So easy for you And any other boy He wouldn’t do what you do He wouldn’t do what you do And almost any other guy Wouldn’t make her cry My, my, my Yeah, she’s such a catch And now she’s catching on to you And when she goes You’re going to change your point of view Are you doing her Some kind of favor? Can you take back all the Distance you gave her? What do you mean She’s going to make a scene? She’s not gonna be The one to cry, oh Don’t make her mad Don’t make her mad Boy that girl’s too good for you She makes you look so bad A one-time deal, a steal Just don’t make A one-time deal, a steal Just don’t make A one-time deal, a steal Just don’t make her mad

about

Recorded in November 2000 but locked in the vault until its release in 2020, this single offers a glimpse into the diverse sounds and subjects of the The Red Squares' repertoire.

Apropos of this period in their lives, many of The Red Squares' songs grappled with the anger and despair often experienced by young adults entering the workforce. Written and sung by Jason Toon, "Clockwatchers" is rallying cry for disaffected office temps and service workers everywhere to harness their collective power for positive change. "Clockwatchers" was re-recorded a year later for the full-length Working For Minimum Wave, but this earlier version more effectively captures the energy and spirit of the song.

Matthew Shultz again brings a personal perspective to the punk party with "Don't Make Her Mad", a quirky pop number serving as a warning to anyone who, underestimating their good fortune, is about to make a costly mistake...

about

The Red Squares St. Louis, Missouri

Past their punk years, not quite mods, The Red Squares believe in the power of the power chord, in the militance of melody, in the righteousness of rhythm.

They play catchy populist rock n' roll and they want to change the world. They are unashamedly geeky, with a wide romantic streak and an unwillingness to talk down to people.

Modern pop action!
This is tomorrow!
