I was hoping, when I met her and told her my heart was hers, She could make me a better man, but I made both of us worse She's always out with the fellas, and I'm forever green I don't know why I'm so jealous, and say things I don't mean Or the reason I made that unseasonal scene She said, "Hon', it's Christmas anyway, can we try not to fight?" I said, "I don't care about the day, but I know when I'm right" So she took a Greyhound bus back home for the holidays To be with her East Coast family 900 miles away I think she can see we're not gonna be okay Santa, don't stop for me Don't leave any presents underneath my tree I've been 'bout as bad as any boy could be Santa, don't stop for me Santa, don't stop for me Well the winter weather is frightful; let it snow, let it snow Christmas parties — every night's full — but I don't want to go I'm making an X-mas list of bad things I have done I've been a shiftless employee and a disobedient son But how I treated my girl is the very worst one Santa, don't stop for me Don't leave any presents under my Christmas tree I've been about as bad as any boy could be so Santa, don't stop for me Santa, don't stop for me Just remember, Santa, when you make deliveries at this time next year This December, though I misbehaved, I was forthcoming, frank, and sincere Does that count for something? Christmas Eve, it's late and we should be nestled snug in our beds I'm alone, awake, and quietly watching TV instead But you're in a hurry, Santa, you don't have much time There's no need to worry, when you're filling up stockings, you can skip mine That's my present to you: one less chimney to climb Santa, don't stop for me Don't leave any presents underneath this year's tree I've been 'bout as bad as any boy could be so Santa, don't stop for me Santa, don't stop for me Santa, don't stop for me I've been just as bad as any boy could be I've been acting selfish and un-Christmas-y Santa, don't stop for me Santa, don't stop for me

Just what is that makes today's homes So different, so appealing? No one's selling what you really want And no one wants to buy what you're really feeling I've been wishing for three more wishes But you're not allowed to do that It's time to learn to want what you want More than anything in the world This is tomorrow! This is tomorrow! This is tomorrow! This is tomorrow! Spent some time in the data mines Boredom from A to Z Tapping out my own death march On the gray plastic IBM keys Your time clock is all I got And that sounds like nothing to lose I press the control button, and ahead of me Rockets blaze through the sky This is tomorrow! This is tomorrow! This is tomorrow! This is tomorrow! Today!

about

"Santa Don't Stop for Me", a remorseful holiday wallow penned and sung by Matthew Shultz, was originally released in November 2000 on Better Than Fruitcake, a full-length CD compilation of "nourishing holiday classics by St. Louis' finest rockers" benefitting Operation Food Search. To help create the vintage, holiday-classic vibe, the Squares enlisted local jazz legend Dave Stone on saxophone.

Written by Jason Toon and sung here by drummer Duane Perry, "This Is Tomorrow" is a modern-pop call to action, challenging The Red Squares' generation (and the Squares themselves) to shake off their ennui and seize the day. This version was recorded during the "Oh! Girlie Girl" sessions in November 1999 (it was recorded again during the Working for Minimum Wave sessions, but ultimately shelved).

about

The Red Squares St. Louis, Missouri

Past their punk years, not quite mods, The Red Squares believe in the power of the power chord, in the militance of melody, in the righteousness of rhythm.

They play catchy populist rock n' roll and they want to change the world. They are unashamedly geeky, with a wide romantic streak and an unwillingness to talk down to people.

Modern pop action!
This is tomorrow!
